Project Summary:
The "Radio Milwaukee Expansion" project aimed to support the Milwaukee community by creating a new radio station focused on the Latino community. The goal was to promote inclusion and cultural awareness through diverse radio content.
Background:
This project was part of my Communication course (CCOM 3250) and involved team collaboration. Radio Milwaukee is a nonprofit radio station that aims to create an inclusive city through music and community events. Our team proposed expanding its reach by launching a Latino-focused station.
Goal:
The main goal was to create a plan for launching a Latino radio station under Radio Milwaukee. The station would share Latino culture, stories, and music to engage the Latino community and promote cultural exchange.
Duration:
The project took 8 weeks, during which we researched, developed a strategy, and proposed actions to promote the new station.
Outcome:
We developed a detailed proposal, including a communication strategy, audience analysis, and action plan to promote cultural inclusion. Our goal was to reach 5,000 listeners within 6 months, using both internal engagement and community outreach.
Imagery:
We created mock-ups of promotional materials for the Latino station, including event posters and social media graphics.
Team Contributions:
I worked on audience identification and strategy, while my teammates focused on campaign ideas, community events, and logistics.
Research and Insights:
We conducted interviews and focus groups with community members and Radio Milwaukee staff. We found strong demand for more culturally diverse content, especially from the Latino community.
Challenges:
A major challenge was competing with other radio stations and streaming services. We needed to ensure our content was unique and culturally rich to attract listeners.
Final Result and Takeaways:
The final proposal provided a clear plan for expanding Radio Milwaukee's offerings. Key takeaways included understanding community needs, effective teamwork, and the impact of strategic communication in promoting inclusion.
Problem:
Radio Milwaukee wanted to create more inclusive content that better represented Milwaukee's diverse community, especially the Latino population. There was a need to expand their offerings to connect more deeply with this audience.
Action:
Our team developed a proposal to launch a Latino-focused radio station under the Radio Milwaukee brand. We conducted community research, created a communication strategy, and outlined plans for internal and external engagement. We proposed cultural events, concerts, and partnerships to build a strong connection with the Latino community.
Result:
The final proposal offered a clear strategy for launching the new station, aiming to reach 5,000 listeners within 6 months. It successfully showcased the potential to promote cultural inclusion and meet community needs. Key takeaways included the value of understanding audience needs and effective team collaboration.
